Mount Conero which is the only mountain (572 metres above sea level) on the coastline from Trieste to Gargano, in symbiosis with the towns of Ancona and Camerano and the seaside resorts of Sirolo and Numana, is in the heart of the Conero Regional Nature Park.
Although the area was declared a Nature Park in 1987 it opened only in 1991 and is an oasis for environmentalists covering a protected area of 5800 hectares with truly suggestive spots such as the bay of Portonovo, the beach of the "Two Sisters", the North panoramic viewpoint, Pian Grande, Pian dei Raggetti.... 18 excursion routes which wind through strawberry trees, broom, pine and Holm oaks in the magical setting of the Mediterranean brush.
There are numerous bird species, some very rare as well as diverse flora and fauna. The many plants which make up the famous Mediterranean brush are all protected and represent one third of the entire floristic heritage of Marche Region.
There are also many artistic monuments such as the exquisite church of Santa Maria in Portonovo, St. Pietro al Conero, the Antiquarium dedicated to Picene civilisations in Numana as well as specific geologic itineraries of singular interest.
